Every brand has values. The question is whether those values are real — whether they actually shape decisions — or whether they exist mainly on a website and a press release.

Ours are real. They come from specific experiences, specific people, specific moments where we had a choice to make and a value to guide us. Here are the five that matter most.

1. Ayurvedic Roots

Everything we make begins with traditional Ayurvedic wisdom. Not as a marketing angle, but as a genuine starting point. Before we look at modern cosmetic science, we ask: what has been known about this ingredient or this practice for a long time? What did Leela know? What does the classical Ayurvedic literature say?

That foundation shapes every formula. It's why washed ghee is at the heart of our range, why we favour whole botanical ingredients over synthetic isolates, and why our approach to skin is fundamentally nourishing rather than corrective.

2. Transparency

Short ingredients lists. Plain English explanations. No proprietary blends that obscure what you're actually buying. If I can't explain what an ingredient does and why it's there, it doesn't go in.

This value came directly from watching my grandmother Leela, who always knew exactly what she was putting on her face because she'd made it herself. I can't give every customer that level of direct involvement, but I can give them the next best thing: complete honesty about what's in the jar.

3. Efficacy

Traditional doesn't mean we accept less than what works. Every product has to perform. The ghee we use isn't in our formulas for its story — it's there because it genuinely nourishes, softens, and supports the skin barrier in ways that are measurable and noticeable.

We reformulate if something doesn't perform to the standard we'd expect, and we don't launch a product until it does. Leela's skin is the benchmark. That's a high bar.

4. Safety

Every Inherited Skincare product is CPSR-tested by a qualified UK cosmetic safety assessor. This is non-negotiable. Ancient wisdom and modern safety standards are not in conflict — they're complementary. We embrace both.

Cruelty-free is also non-negotiable. No product we make is tested on animals, and we never will.

5. Sustainability

We make our products in the UK to reduce supply chain length and maintain quality control. We source organic ingredients where possible. We use packaging that's recyclable and don't overpackage. We're on a continuous journey here, not claiming perfection — but the direction of travel is fixed.

Every decision we make about sourcing, manufacturing, and packaging is filtered through the question: is this something we can be proud of? So far, the answer has been yes. We intend to keep it that way.
